Emma Raducanu Makes Tennis History
Qualifier Wins US Open
Proud Parents Watch from Afar
British tennis star Emma Raducanu has made history by becoming the first qualifier to win the US Open. The 18-year-old's victory marks a remarkable achievement and has made her the first female qualifier to win a Grand Slam title.
Raducanu's parents, Renee Zhang and Ian Raducanu, watched their daughter's triumph from afar as they were unable to travel to the United States due to COVID-19 restrictions. Zhang, who is originally from Shenyang, China, moved to Toronto while working in the finance industry. Raducanu's father, Ian, is Romanian and worked in the finance industry before moving to the UK with his family.
Despite not being able to be physically present, Raducanu's parents expressed their immense pride in their daughter's accomplishment. Zhang said, "I'm so proud of Emma. She's worked so hard and she deserves this success." Raducanu's father added, "This is an incredible moment for Emma and we're all so happy for her."
